Teaching Literacy Through Movement and Rhythm
For all ages and all needs!
The Fundraiser for MADLOM, November 18, 2011, at the Montclair Public Library
Auditorium and Terra Tea Salon was a SUCCESS!
Jazz music and poetry dedicated to Turia Alice Coltrane and raising funds for Montclair
Academy of Dance and Laboratory of Music became a Tri-State musical and spiritual
journey! We all felt as if the sound assumed a higher form of creative exchange!
Musicians who performed were:
Reggie Workman on bass, Geri Allen on piano, Asaf Yuria on tenor saxophone and Cory Cox
on percussion. Billy Hart, jazz drummer extraordinaire, joined us with his remarkable solo
on drums!
Our own Ayana Workman read poetry of Oliver Lake.
Many friends and families of MADLOM from Montclair and Manhattan honored us with their
presence, including the Mayor of Montclair Jerry Fried, Council General of Slovenia Melta
Gabric, jazz percussionist Billy Hart, and jazz pianist Diane Mozer.

Will employ a new character: ANANSI THE SPIDER
According to age, the students will explore differnet possibilities to
guide this archetypal trixter character into a new world that they will
invent.
Eventually this will become a cross-cultural narrative for performances Maya
intends to produce as a part of ART RESCUES KIDS in Europe and the USA, to
tour different parts of the disadvantaged world in the USA, Africa, Asia and Europe
